Serve with a Local Children's Charity

Learn more about our food donation drive and a service opportunity through grocery shopping.

Read on to learn more about our food donation drive and opportunities to serve, in partnership with a local children’s charity that supports children from low-income families and disadvantaged backgrounds.

For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in. - Matthew 25:35 (NIV)

Food Donation Drive (23 January - 6 March)

What items can I donate?

We require 30 bags of mixed rice (5kg each), 20 bottles/cans of carbonara pasta sauce, 20 bottles/cans of tomato-based pasta sauce, 20 packs of macaroni pasta, 20 packs of spaghetti pasta, and 20 cans of mushrooms.

As the charity is encouraging the children to make healthier food choices, they only accept mixed rice. All donated food items must be halal-certified.

Where can I indicate my interest to donate?

The charity is asking for a fixed quantity of each food item given their storage constraints. To help keep track of the number of food items we still need, please indicate the items you wish to donate via this sign-up form linked below.

Check the “Sign Up” box/es next to the item/s you wish to donate, then click “Submit and Sign Up” at the bottom of the page. You will be directed to the next page. Indicate the quantity of item/s you wish to donate.

How will food donations be used?

The charity provides hot lunches to an estimated 25 children each week. Food donations will be used to prepare these hot lunches.

Where can I drop off my donations?

Please drop off your donations at the Queen’s Road entrance on Mondays to Fridays from 11am - 4pm. Alternatively, you can drop off your donations at the King’s Road or Queen’s Road entrance when you come for service on Saturdays or Sundays. The closing date for donations is 20th February.

Grocery Shopping with Children from Low-Income Households

We are also looking for volunteers to bring children from low-income households on a grocery shopping trip, to learn more about nutrition, budgeting and decision-making skills.

What is the criteria for volunteers?

Volunteers must be 18 years old and above, fully vaccinated*, and ideally able to guide children in making nutritious food choices within a fixed budget.

What do volunteers have to do during the grocery shopping trip?

Each volunteer will be paired with one child for the grocery shopping trip. The pair will visit a supermarket and purchase groceries within a fixed budget of $30, as per the charity's guidelines. The child should benefit in two ways. First, through the provision of groceries for his/her family. Second, he or she will learn about nutrition, budgeting and decision-making skills.

Are volunteers required to pay for the groceries?

Of the $30 budget per child, we request that volunteers pay $20. For example, if you are volunteering for 2 sessions, you would need to pay $40. For full-time students, the payment amount is $10 per session. IBC will sponsor the remaining amount.

What are the available dates and timings?

There are currently 3 available dates and timings for volunteers to choose from. You may volunteer for more than one session if you are able to commit to multiple dates and timings.

  • Tuesday, 8 March, 5PM - 6:30PM @ Bukit Merah (Sign-ups closed)
  • Thursday, 17 March, 3:30PM - 5:30PM @ Kaki Bukit (Sign-ups closed)
  • Friday, 18 March, 3PM - 4:30PM @ Bukit Merah (Sign-ups close 2nd March)

How do I sign up as a volunteer?

Simply fill out the form linked below and we'll get in touch with you!

What happens after I sign up?

We will get in touch with you within 3-5 working days. Please note that a group of 5 volunteers (both the min. and max. number) is required per session. Sessions will only proceed if we have 5 volunteer sign-ups for that date and timing. If the session date/s you have selected are confirmed, you are required to:

  • Fill in the charity's Volunteer Agreement Form
  • Pay $20/session OR $10/session if you are a full-time student. We will inform you of payment methods via email.
  • Attend 2 online briefings by the IBC Children's Ministry and local children's charity respectively. We will inform you of the briefing dates via email.
  • Attend the session date/s you signed up for
